In 2015, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Sir Winston Churchill, the South African Mint released a very Limited Issue Fractional Winston Churchill Mint Mark Krugerrand Gold Proof 3 Coin Set struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.
The collection includes the Half Ounce, Quarter-Ounce and Tenth-Ounce Gold Proof Krugerrand coins with a special Winston Churchill Mint Mark and a Winston Churchill Silver Medallion.
The reverse of the Krugerrand coin, designed by Coert Steynberg, depicts a Springbok Antelope, one of South Africa's national symbols, and includes a special "Winston Churchill, 50 Years" Mint Mark, while the obverse features the portrait of Paul Kruger. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
