In 2015, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Sir Winston Churchill, the South African Mint released a very Limited Issue Winston Churchill Mint Mark Quarter Krugerrand Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold weighing one-quarter of an ounce of pure Gold.
The reverse of the Quarter Krugerrand Gold Proof Coin, designed by Coert Steynberg, depicts a Springbok Antelope, one of South Africa's national symbols, and includes a special "Winston Churchill, 50 Years" Mint Mark, while the obverse features the portrait of Paul Kruger. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
