The proof versions of the American Eagle Platinum Coin feature a cameo image floating on a mirror-like background and the first-time offered, reverse proof versions of the American Eagle Platinum Coin features a frosted background and an enhanced brilliant, mirror-like finish on the raised elements of the coin.
Both coins carry the "W" mint mark, indicating their production at the United States Mint at West Point.
The coins feature a design symbolic of Liberty on the obverse. On the reverse is a design of Bald Eagle with its wings spread wide to represent freedom, with a shield at the ready to enforce the laws that guarantee this freedom.
The coins have the inscription of the denominations, the weight of the platinum content, the year of minting of issuance, the words 'Liberty', "In God We Trust", United States of America, and a reeded edge, as stipulated by Law.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
