In 2001 the South African Mint released a very special Limited Issue Prestige Natura Oryx Gold Proof 4 Coin Set all struck in solid 24 Carat Gold and includes the 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz coins and is the third in the series of the Monarchs of Africa series.

The Oryx (Gemsbok) ranks amongst the most handsome antelopes in Africa with its long rapier - like horns.
Oryx are grazers but will browse from bushes without water for long periods.

Although shy animals, they are bold and brave when cornered. Lions are especially cautious when attacking Oryx.
