The medieval Malla dynasty introduced more structured coinage systems, including silver mohars and copper denominations featuring ornate geometric designs and inscriptions. These coins often included the names of kings and religious motifs, reflecting the cultural sophistication of the period and the increasing standardisation of currency.

Under the Shah dynasty and modern Nepal, coinage evolved further with the introduction of mohars, dams, and later the Nepalese rupee system. By the 19th century, copper paisa and other denominations became standard, eventually transitioning into the modern decimal currency system still used today.
