For 2018, to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Captain James Cook's Voyage of Discovery, the Royal Mint released the first coin of three with a special range of Limited Issue Captain Cook Coins.
The range will consist of three coins over three years and will be minted in Gold Proof, Silver Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
The first coin in the series, designed by Gary Breeze, depicts the ship Endeavour and the writing Captain James Cook, while the obverse of all the coins features the Fifth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
