In 2013 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Queen's Coronation, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Portrait Piedfort £5 Five Pound Silver Proof 4 Coin Set depicting the 4 portraits of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick, Arnold Machin, Raphael Maklouf, Ian Rank Broadley all struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.

The collection comprises 4 x Piedfort £5 Five Pound coins depicting the 4 portraits of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick, Arnold Machin, Raphael Maklouf, Ian Rank Broadley.
All the coins in the collection share the obverse of Ian Rank Broadley‘s majestic portrait of Her Majesty, the Queen.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.

Piedforts are coins which have been specially struck on thicker than normal blanks.
As their name suggests they are closely associated with France, where from the twelfth century they were apparently issued by the Kings as presentation pieces.
In Britain the practise of striking piedforts is later and less frequent, but medieval and Tudor examples are known.
