Struck in 22-carat gold in earlier years, the 2013 Britannia gold coins mark the transition to pure 24-carat gold (.9999 fine), while the 1oz silver Britannia coins move from .958 fine silver to .999 fine silver, resulting in a lighter, more refined modern bullion specification.

The 2013 Britannia coins continue the established gold Britannia investment range, but now struck in .9999 fine gold (24 carat) for the first time, replacing the earlier 22-carat composition used from 1987–2012.

The silver Britannia coins were also upgraded to .999 fine silver, reducing weight slightly to 31.21g while still containing a full 1 troy ounce of pure silver, and featuring a reduced diameter of 38.61mm compared to the earlier 40mm format used from 1997–2012.

Unlike earlier years, 2013 introduced unlimited bullion mintages, with production levels driven by investor demand rather than fixed collector limits, making this a key structural shift in the Britannia series.
