2009 Britannia 50p Silver Proof 1/4oz Coin

In 2009 the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Britannia 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .958 Silver and weighing one quarter of an ounce of pure Silver.

2009 brings Philip Nathan's dynamic portrayal of Britannia onto the 50p Fifty Pence, emphasising her strength and long associations with the sea.
Framed by the ornate 'romanesque style' crenellated border peculiar to Britannia coins, the reverse features the majestic figure of Britannia standing proud in her horse-drawn chariot as she races along the shore, while the obverse features the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
