In 2004 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue D-Day Landings £5 Five Pound Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.
The reverse designed David Cornell depicts the troops landing at Omaha Beach while the obverse has a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
