In 2001 to celebrate the Oryx, the South African Mint released a very Limited Issue Natura Oryx Gold Proof Coin struck in solid Fine 999.9 Gold weighing one half of an ounce of pure Gold.

The reverse of the coin depicts the Oryx (Gemsbok).
The Oryx (Gemsbok) Prince of the Kalahari ranks amongst the most handsome antelopes in Africa with its long rapier - like horns.

Oryx (Gemsbok) are grazers but will browse from bushes without water for long periods.
Although shy animals, they are bold and brave when cornered. Lions are especially cautious when attacking Gemsbok.
