In 1998 to celebrate the Bermuda Triangle, the Royal Mint on behalf of the Monetary Authority of Bermuda released a Limited Issue $9 Nine Dollar Silver Proof Coin struck in solid fine .999 Silver weighing five ounces of pure Silver and minted in a special Triangular Shape.

Situated in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean some 600 mile off the coast of North America, and surrounded by the worlds most nortlerly coral reef, the beautiful islands of Bermuda were discovered in 1503 by Spanish explorer Juan de Bermudez after whom they were named.

During the 16th century, Bermuda, whose unchartered and hazardous reefs claimed many am unfortunate ship that sailed too close to shore, was merely a navigational point for ships returning from the New World.

Indeed, the islands were to remain uninhabited until British colonists, led by Sir George Somers, were shipwrecked there in 1609.
Tales of horrific storms and strange nocturnal bird sounds, in particular the cahow, no doubt helped to explain why Bermuda became known as the Isle of Devils.

The reverse designed by Robert Elderton is based on an original design by Bermudian John R Warwick entitled "Deliverance Sailing to Virginia in 1610" while the obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
