In 1981 to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Cockerel, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Lunar Cockerel $1000 One Thousand Dollar Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR70 DCAM with special NFC Anti-Counterfeiting Technology on behalf of the Hong Kong Government.

The reverse design depicts an artists impression of a species of Cockerel commonly found in Hong Kong and China.
The obverse has Arnold Machin's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
