2026 British Grand Prix Centenary Piedfort 50p Silver Proof Coin Box Coa
In 2026, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the British Grand Prix, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Grand Prix Piedfort 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.
The reverse, designed by Interstate Creative Partners, features a car from the 1926 Brooklands race and a 2026 Formula 1 car emphasising the relentless technical development that has been so characteristic of Formula 1™ through the decades, while the obverse depicts the Portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
Piedforts are coins which have been especially struck on thicker-than-normal blanks. As their name suggests, they are closely associated with France, where, from the twelfth century, they were apparently issued by the Kings as presentation pieces.
In Britain, the practice of striking piedforts is later and less frequent, but medieval and Tudor examples are known.
