In 2010 to commemorate 350th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Monarchy, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Restoration of the Monarchy £5 Five Pound Proof Coin.

The reverse design depicts St Edwards Crown with a sprig of Oak and recalls the Restoration of the Monarchy when, following the execution of Charles I and the ten-year republican rule of Oliver Cromwell, Charles II made a triumphant return to London to usher in a reign of cultural vitality.

The interlinked C's form a pleasing link with the coinage of Charles II. The words chosen for the edge inscription - A QUIET AND PEACEABLE POSSESSION - have been taken from the Declaration of Breda, the conciliatory Declaration of Intent issued by Charles II while in exile whereupon it was agreed that 'the government is and ought to be by King, Lords and Commons'.
The obverse design is the stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
