In 2008, to celebrate the last of the Emblems of Britain designs and the first of the New Royal Shield of Arms design, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue solid .999 Platinum Proof 14 Coin Collection of the Emblems of Britain and the new designs of the Royal Shield of Arms for the coinage of the United Kingdom, allowing collectors the opportunity to own a piece of numismatic history.

Familiar designs that have served us well for nearly 40 years will be replaced by a new set of designs, contemporary in style yet grounded in the traditions of coinage.
Now, in a new age, the time has come to rejuvenate the coinage by seeking designs that treat traditional symbols in an innovative and modern way.

The series chosen brings new life to the coinage, just as the decimal designs did 40 years ago, drawing inspiration from the very fabric of British history.
The obverse of all the coins features the stunning portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
