In 2007 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the first Britannia, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Britannia £1 One Pound Silver Matte Proof Coin struck in solid .958 Silver and weighing one half of an ounce of pure Silver and depicts the third Britannia design from 2001.
The design Elegant and graceful, she calls to mind the 'Una and Lion' five-pound pieces of 1839 as, armed with shield and trident, she guides the British lion into the future.
The obverse designed by Ian Rank Broadley is the stunning effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
