In 2000, to celebrate the Millennium, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue St George and the Dragon Gold Bullion Full Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.
Acclaimed all over the world as a masterpiece of numismatic art, Pistrucci's St George appeared, with the sole exception of the special commemorative gold coins of 1989, on every Sovereign and Half Sovereign issued throughout the 20th Century.
It is gratifying, therefore, that it should take the gold coinage into the new Millennium, gracing the reverse of the first Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns of the 21st Century. The obverse features the portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank Broadley FRBS, FSNAD.
