In 2000, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue £5 Five Pound Banknote and £5 Five Pound Coin Set to commemorate the Queen Mothers Centenary.
The reverse of the Brilliant Uncirculated £5 Five Pound Crown features a portrait of The Queen Mother with a background of cheering crowds in two modes of dress. Those who rejoice at her birth and those who celebrate her centenary. Below the portrait appears, with kind permission, a representation of her signature.
To mark centenary of the Queen Mother, The Bank of England has produced this Uncirculated £5 Five Pound Banknote that bears a unique commemorative cypher, which will not be produced for general circulation. This note is of the current series in issue and shows the cypher QM10 0 and a serial number between 010001 and 011000.
The Bank of England have issued this special cypher in honour of this very special occasion. QM 100 will not be produced for general circulation and therefore these are the only notes to have this cypher.
