In 1989, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Decimal Proof 9 Coin collection of the present coinage of the United Kingdom, which includes the two pound coins to celebrate the Tercentenary of the Bill of Rights and Claim of Right.

The inclusion of these two coins in the 1989 Proof coin collection is of great significance to discerning numismatists, as the 1989 range of coins of the United Kingdom is not available as a complete set, in any standard of striking other than Proof Quality.

The first nickel-brass £2 coin to depict a commemorative design was issued in 1986, when the XXIII Commonwealth Games were honoured with a design by Norman Sillman.

It is fitting, therefore, that an event as important as the tercentenary of the Bill of Rights and Claim of Rights should receive special recognition on the reverse of the 1989 £2 Two Pound Coins.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
