In 1980, the South African Mint released a very Limited Issue Quarter Krugerrand Gold Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold weighing one quarter of an ounce of pure Gold.
The reverse of the coin, designed by Coert Steynberg, depicts a Springbok Antelope, one of the national symbols of South Africa, while the obverse features the portrait of Paul Kruger. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
