In 1817, for the first time, the Royal Mint released a George III St George and the Dragon Gold Full Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as AU55 with special NFC Anti-Counterfeiting Technology.
In 1817, after the Royal Mint had moved from the Tower of London to a site on Tower Hill, full production got underway, and coinage changed from the old Guinea to the Sovereign.
The launch of the first sovereign designed by Benedetto Pistrucc i has the stunning St George and the Dragon on the reverse, and the obverse has a portrait of George III.1816, which was a landmark in the history of coinage.
After the Royal Mint moved from the Tower Mint to another site in Tower Hill, full regular production was underway.
